Xbox One vs PS4: who wins on ‘Battlefield 4’? By Rich McCormick on October 29, 2013 06:30 am Email 31Comments Don’t miss stories Follow The Verge battlefield4-boat-judged 1 inShare Battlefield 4 launched today in the US on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC — to largely positive reviews — but gamers have to wait until mid November to play DICE’s massive shooter on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The start of a new console generation means that the differences between the game’s various versions are, for the first time in half a decade, truly noticeable. Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry explains those differences, comparing the Xbox One and PS4 incarnations of the game side by side on video, outlining why Battlefield 4 runs at a higher resolution on PS4, and justifying the PC version as the very best Battlefield in terms of features and fidelity. * Source Eurogamer * Related Items game gaming graphics playstation 4 ps4 xbox one battlefield 4 compare There are 31 Comments. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 8:26 AM Reply AgentMichaelScarn I don’t really get the fuss over the quality of 3rd party launch games. These consoles are, to me at least, a minimum 5 year investment. If there are still problems by the time of the first hardware refresh then it can be called a disaster! But fanboys, what can you do… Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 6:34 AM Reply hover10 So will the Microsoft fanbois now agree that the PS4 extra performance is real – while paying $100 less? Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 6:39 AM Reply Oppo Fanboy Oppo Fanboy Both versions are treated to post-processing anti-aliasing too, seemingly equivalent to the refined, high setting on PC. However, this doesn’t tell the whole story. As you may notice in our screengrabs, the actual results on PS4 lack the corresponding level of crystal clarity we’d expect of such a significant resolution boost. This should surely be a home run for Sony’s console, but what is likely to be a software-based upscale to 1080p delivers less-than-stellar returns, and for better or worse leaves the Xbox One with an often crisper looking, albeit much more aliased image. Clearly a win for the PS4 /s Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 6:50 AM Reply Firefly7475 Firefly7475 the actual results on PS4 lack the corresponding level of crystal clarity we’d expect of such a significant resolution boost Yeah I noticed this as well, the PS4 dude definitely looks plastic and lifeless compared to the XB1. My guess was a poor job at AA + scaling as well. It reminds me of getting a JPEG out of a camera that has the noise removed, but all the detail scrubbed out as well. Not that this stuff matters. Gamers spend their time playing games, not comparing screen shots side-by-side… and that’s the only time you’re ever going to be able to pick the differences between these two. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:29 AM Reply nae2shabby nae2shabby What is curious is the level of “pop” given to the Xbox One’s textures, where – bizarrely – artwork often seems to be more detailed than on PlayStation 4. In high contrast scenes, we sometimes see a kind of halo effect around some detail, which may suggest some kind of artificial detail-boosting post-process. Whether this is part of Microsoft’s new upscaling tech remains to be seen, I believe this Microsoft’s infrequently mentioned ‘Tiled Resource’ tech at work here… Seems early stages still, but the potential is incredible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EswYdzsHKMc Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 8:08 AM Reply TheLibertine Have to say that from watching the first minute of that footage I think the Xbone looks better (indeed I thought it was the PS4 until I actually looked). It’s clearer and less ‘muddy’. I’m sure the PS4 overall is probably better, quite honestly I don’t care. Surely people buy a games console for the games and the ecosystem? Whether a PS4 or a XB1 you’ll be playing in isolation, so minor graphical differences are really kind of irrelevant. Oh and the idea of ‘competition’ between ps4 and xb1 fans is still nothing less that hilarious…it’s a bloody games console ffs! Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 6:51 AM Reply iDavey iDavey This! I don’t buy a console to beat my chest at the competition. My console is bought so I can enjoy it. If the Xbox looks better, oh well. That certainly won’t stop me from enjoying my game system. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:02 AM Reply tdance tdance Resolution doesn’t really mean as much as you so called “gamers” claim. I play 1080 (maxed out) upscaled to 1440 on my PC because I’d rather have all extras running at a lower resolution to keep frame rates nice and smooth than put any real stress on my PC and drop the occasional frame. Its the same as a 720p video with a high bitrate upscaled to 1080p looks better than a 1080p video with a low bitrate, what matters is how it actually looks, not the specs, and right now the difference is negligible. I can’t remember a time when the PC was so completely dominant over the consoles in graphics. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:33 AM Reply satchow Are the consoles being sold at cost now? I remember the PS3/360 were sold at well under cost when they were first released. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:40 AM Reply AngryNil AngryNil Microsoft says it should break even at worst. Sony says it will be losing less than it did on the PS3. While you can build a $1000+ gaming rig that will make these consoles weep, I still see there being a large market for them. Between ease-of-use, price point and life cycle, they are compelling. And it’s going to be interesting to see how things turn out with investments being made in cloud computing and streaming. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 8:34 AM Reply xPutNameHerex …justifying the PC version as the very best Battlefield in terms of features and fidelity. Was this ever in consideration? PC has always outperformed consoles in terms of horsepower and capabilities, due to customization and upgrades allowing you to put the very best tech in the machine. Plus, it is Battlefield, the game that has always been about PC gaming. Were people expecting differently? Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:37 AM Reply satchow You never know now-a-days with some developers, especially with Sports games where PC sales lag greatly behind console. Games like NBA2K14 and FIFA14 on the PC are all current gen console ports while PS4/Xbone have significant improvements. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:42 AM Reply p_giguere1 How much do you expect software/hardware to change in less than a month? Both are probably final at this point. Games don’t go gold the day before they’re released. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:45 AM Reply R. Walton R. Walton People who bought a PS4: Well surely the higher resolution makes all the difference, and we know that the PS4 version will be the superior one forever and ever, bringing on the dawn of a new era for Sony and as such, humanity. People who bought a Xbox One: No one cares about resolution when the details are that crisp already. The Xbone version clearly cures cancer and will prevent the end of humanity if a zombie outbreak happens. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:44 AM Reply Eric Morgan Eric Morgan At one point, we were so caught up in the graphics competition that they took the game out of the video game. I thought I was getting a real “life-like football video game!” and instead got about 7 canned animations. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:47 AM Reply p_giguere1 Pretty crazy that real 1080p still can’t be achieved on consoles. My interest in consoles is declining over time, it’s pretty ridiculous considering I’ve been playing PC games at 1920×1200 ever since I got a display that supported it almost a decade ago. Remember when Sony claimed PS3 games would run at 1080p/60 fps? There we are, 8 years later, realizing even the PS4, which should be for sale for many years to come, can’t render at 1080p. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 7:52 AM Reply Dbrock23 Dbrock23 PC. Fact is that PC will always have that winning edge. Posted on Oct 29, 2013 | 8:07 AM Reply texazzpete The PS4 version looks better, but only upon close scrutiny and certainly not noticeable to 95% of the buying public. The console wars will be decided mainly on price, exclusives, controller layout and non-gaming ecosystem*. These are what the tens of millions of people who will buy these devices focus on, not DF’s “there is a slight shimmer on the textures and ambient occlusion seems to be over-liberally applied” spiel. * stuff like Xbox Fitness will sell hundreds of thousands of consoles, If not millions. FIVE MISTAKES MEN MAKE WHILE DATING #XTIANDELA #KOT #Comedycentralke

Women can figure what kind of a man you are by your behaviour.1. Too easy to pleaseMen who throw out too many niceties too early on in a relationship, laugh at all the jokes that a girl makes (even when they both know they’re not funny), and are always ready to do what the girl wants are the type of men women are wary off. Of course women love compliments, who doesn’t? But when it is over the top then it stops working. Women feel that the ‘too eager to please’ are the men who are probably insecure.Men who throw out too many niceties too early on in a relationship, laugh at all the jokes that a girl makes (even when they both know they’re not funny), and are always ready to do what the girl wants are the type of men women are wary off. Being possessive too soonSo your girlfriend is out with her own bunch of friends and it’s late. You are not very happy. You start obsessively calling, texting and stalking her social networking, micro blogging sites.3. You know what it’s like: You are sitting at home playing Playstation while your hot new girlfriend is still out drinking with a bunch of her male colleagues. It’s getting late and since you haven’t heard from her for a couple of hours, you try to get hold of her. But you can’t. So you start. Unfortunately, she’s not going to think it’s cute; she’s going to think it’s creepy. Even if you are growing green with envy over the fact that she was hanging with other men, you need to act like she’s entitled to have a life of her own. And if you do this, she’s going to want to spend even more time with you anyway.4. Don’t ask her to split the billOf course women like to pay their own bills and we know we can afford those expensive dinners. But we still feel great when a man pulls out his wallet. Women can figure what kind of a man you are by your behaviour. No, you don’t need to take her to a prohibitively expensive restaurant all the time. Taking her out on a date where you pay for the meal and you do not complain about it will show her that you are someone who really knows how to take care of a woman. Women are generally drawn to men who can protect and provide. And a girl will pay once in a while but asking her to pay up every time only convinces her that you are not someone she can have a future with, at all.Of course women like to pay their own bills and we know we can afford those expensive dinners. For a girl all this is not a turn on at all and makes her feel that the man is too deep under his own baggage. It is downright boring to listen to a man whine about a relationship that does not involve her. If you are not over your ex avoid going out with someone else. And if you do go out, avoid mentioning your ex. @kyluxj

Serial Entrepreneur and Investor in People with Passion.Serial Entrepreneur and Investor in People with Passion

It is no secret that technology has dramatically changed our lives, from revolutionising centuries-old habits such as reading, to introducing completely new behaviours such as tweeting. I have long said that businesses which don’t take note of technological developments are putting themselves at a disadvantage. However, technology firms also need to take note of traditional business principles. In my show The Business Class, I recently came across an exciting new technology business, Blippar, which is an augmented reality app. Blippar transforms text and adverts into a live, interactive experience for consumers. With over 3 millions users and 15 million ‘Blipps’ to date, the company has experienced real success to date. But what are the key factors for businesses operating in the technology industry?Marketing is absolutely fundamental to any business. You need to get out there and sell your story. What is your product? How does it work? Will my life be made easier or better by using it? These are questions that are relevant for any entrepreneur in any industry. For firms like Blippar, this is relevant for both consumers and brands. This is ultimately a volume game; you need more people using your app. This consumer base then makes it more attractive to brands.Feedback is a crucial part of both personal and professional development. You have to listen to your customers. This is especially true of technology firms, with software and apps being constantly improved. Blippar’s reviews suggested that there was a split in the market; people either loved it or hated it. In order to grow, understand why the customers are providing this feedback. It may be due to the user experience or perhaps the reliability – whatever it is, you must take their thoughts on board. I always tell my businesses to follow up with clients who may not be happy with the service they received. In the majority of instances, demonstrating that you will do better next time can save the relationship. You have to remember that technology moves really quickly, and the growth or decline of businesses in this sector is often determined by how well they react to what they see. Whether it’s changes in the market, new developments or simply customer mentality – I believe you should always take note of these. There have been many success stories in the technology sector over the past decade, for example Apple, Facebook and Summly. These are different businesses, with different personalities at the helm, but all have great belief in themselves and their idea. If Blippar want to become the next big global phenomenon, they must not let self-created obstacles stop them from creating this.

Van Persie says David Moyes has only made Manchester United more hungry #mufc #teamMANU
